Women's Resource Center

Our Programs

WRC offers a wide range of resources for individuals in Durango and La Plata County. The best way to take advantage of our support is to come in to the office so that we can personally guide you through our programs and assist with any issues along the way.

Womenade is a grassroots program that provides financial assistance through one-time grants of up to $700. The purpose of this financial aid program is to help individuals who are normally self-sufficient and are experiencing temporary and/or unexpected financial hardships get back on their feet and move forward in their lives. Applications are anonymously presented and donors vote to determine the recipients of the money raised that evening. Womenade funds have been used to help with car repairs, dental work, child care, rent, utilities and other emergencies. Since 2002 the Womenade Program has helped over 600 individuals and given out over $250,000 in grants!

Get Your Girl Power Workshops
This workshop is to encourage more young girls in 5th grade to embrace their intelligence, strength and body image, at one of the most critical times in a young woman’s educational career. Topics covered are:
media literacy, personal safety, career and life choices, interpersonal relationships, and bullying intervention techniques. Get Your Girl Power has helped over 100 fifth graders in Bayfield and Ignacio learn important empowerment skills!

Our center is a safe space for any individuals seeking support in navigating life’s hurdles. WRC offers a wide range of in house resources to support our clients during our office hours. Computers and printers are available to clients and our staff is available to assist with computer literacy, online form submissions, printing, scanning and more. We also keep a stock of basic toiletries and hygiene products available to anyone in need who comes to visit our office. Our goal is to sit down with individuals who visit the center and find out what specific needs they have and how we can help so that when they leave they are on a path of positive progress and self sufficiency.

Should clients need additional assistance outside of our own programming, we have a large network of organizations we work with, to which we can make referrals. WRC partners with many outside organizations and our staff assists clients with paperwork, online forms and more to ensure that their needs are met. Our referrals cover domestic violence, financial issues, healthcare, workplace issues, senior services, housing assistance and more! Clients are encouraged to visit our office in person or call to chat with one of our staff members to see how our center can best support their needs. Often times we find that we can help with much more than the single issue that brought them in to our office.
